Save Our Communities!
Save Our Historically Black Neighborhoods!
What will happen to the residents of Poindexter after their homes are demolished? CMHA* will give them Section 8 vouchers and direct them to the suburbs to find rental units. As more people from the suburbs move into the city, this plan pushes low income people out of the city to make room for gentrification by higher income households. Low-income residents living in the suburbs are displaced, cut off from established communities, bus transportation, and job opportunities!
>Poindexter Improves our Neighborhoods and our Communities<
Poindexter improves the value of the King-Lincoln-Bronzeville Neighborhood. It provides affordable housing stock that is built to last. The children go to school in the neighborhood school. The residents bring income into the community and spend their money locally. What will happen to the Neighborhood if Poindexter is gone? How long will the lot sit an empty eye sore? How much of a voice will local residents have in what goes in its place?
>Poindexter brings Historic Value to Columbus<
Poindexter was one of the first Housing Projects in the country. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt presided over the opening ceremonies. It produced famous artists, and existed during a time when King-Lincoln was a thriving black neighborhood that circulated black capital among black-owned businesses. The site of Poindexter played a key role in black migration from the South to the North after the Civil War.
